Hi Gary, just stumbled across this – really love it. I’m half considering making a sound documentary about Peter Handford and Transacord at the moment. Like you I stumbled across a lot of Transacord albums for sale at a heritage railway and ended up buying the lot! ( Well, in the end I was given several albums as the lady said they were not selling! ) Only when I got home did I find out that many of them were test-pressings and had other interesting bits and bobs inserted in the sleeves. I’ve just started digital filming and have become very aware of sound having spent much time this Summer out in the wilds of the Cambridgeshire Fens filming freight trains. The way sound carries out there is quite amazing, if you are in the right place.

Thanks very much, that sounds very interesting he was a very special guy and an inspiration to me. It was always an ambition of mine to own all of his great works and I have virtually realised that. I have also taken up photography and it has pushed the sound recording onto the back burner (something I need to address) and I have an Instagram account called konakaboom should you wish to take a look. Hopefully I’ll get out more with the Mics over the winter when things are quieter. Nice one with the test pressings, and yes your right about the fens. My favourite spot is at Benwick by the old goods shed near the old Three Horse Shoes Signalbox.
